Thomas Smith's Respublica, sive status Regni Scottiae et Hiberniae (1627). Frontispice

Title

Thomas Smith's Respublica, sive status Regni Scottiae et Hiberniae (1627). Frontispice

Description

Compilation of histories and descriptions of ancient Scotland and Ireland, written by sixteenth-century English and Scottish antiquaries, published in miniature by Elzevier in his collection of petites républiques. The expurgatory note, which continues overleaf, asks for caution when reading the book, since, although it should not be prohibited, it may contain offensive ideas against the crown and religion.
