The dates and itinerary of Prince Charles's land journey to Santander

The itinerary of the Prince of Wales's jornada to Santander of 1623 covered over 450 kilometers, from the royal monastery and palace of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, northwest of Madrid, to the place of embarkation in Santander, on the Spanish northern coast.

The journey lasted eleven days, from Tuesday the 12th to Friday the 22nd of September. With only one exception, two principal stops were made every day, separated by about twenty kilometers: the first stop for lunch around noon; the second one, for supper and staying the night around 5 pm. Brackets indicate a leisure visit to the place during the first days at El Escorial or the point of departure proper.
